7 hacks to get cheap and free Burger King
Burger King is a go-to favourite for students, so we've hacked the menu to show you how to get free and heavily discounted food.
Even the most die-hard fan of McDonald's food would admit that Burger King is a worthy rival. But sometimes the price can be a little off-putting... until now.
Six or seven quid can seem pretty expensive for a meal, but what if we told you that you could get the exact same items for way less?
We've gone into the depths of Burger King's prices* and menu, giving you the best ways to save on Double Cheeseburgers, Whoppers, Chicken Royales and more. So, are you ready to start saving big style on Burger King sandwiches, drinks and more? Let's go.
How to get free Burger King
Let's delve into the world of freebies and discounted items at Burger King:
-
Free Burger King Whoppers and other burgers
Treat yourself to free food at Burger King!
On the back of their receipts, there's a link to a survey that should only take a few minutes to complete. Take this survey and you'll then be given a code to write down on the receipt to claim your free burger (much like you can do to get unlimited £1.99 Big Mac and fries at McDonald's).
If you don't have a receipt lying around, you can womble one from around the restaurant. Or, you can buy the cheapest thing on their menu (a cheeseburger or hamburger for 99p) – you'll still end up saving money.
You can then claim your free burger (Whopper, Veggie Bean Burger or a Chicken Royale) when you purchase regular fries and a drink.
These two items together should cost £3.68, so that's now the price of your full meal! Bear in mind that you'll need to complete the survey within 30 days of the date on your old receipt – so no rummaging through your room for an old one.
-
£1.49 Double Cheeseburger
Admittedly, Burger King is one of the more expensive chains.
But if you take a look at the King Saver menu, you can grab some real bargains. For example, this menu is where you'll find the famous Double Cheeseburger, which will set you back just £1.59 – a big bargain.
And as a bonus hack... if you add bacon to it (which will be an extra 40p – 50p), you can create a Bacon Double Cheeseburger for around £2. Usually, these will set you back £4.49 on the regular menu, so that's better than half price.
-
Hack the Burger King Jr menu
Fancy getting more food for less money? Yep, we know it sounds like a trick, but we're 100% serious. For instance, if you were going to order a cheeseburger, you might want to consider ordering a Kids Cheeseburger meal instead for £3.29.
You'll get a little less food as it's a junior meal BUT (and this is a big but), if you order two of these meals, it'll cost you £6.58. That's still cheaper than the regular meal, plus you'll end up with more food. Winning.
Or, if you're not as hungry as you thought you were, you can stick with the £3.29 Jr meal and you'll waste less food.
-
Get free gherkins at Burger King
If you're as big of a fan of gherkins as we are, you'll love this trick.
Are you ever dreaming of more than one or two gherkins per burger? Your dreams may just come true – if you ask for extra gherkins, the staff will usually add a few additional ones to your burger. And the best part? It's completely free!
And, by the same token, if you hate gherkins with a passion (as many people do), you can also ask for them to be removed from your burger altogether.
-
Get 10% – 20% off your Burger King meal
There's nothing we love more here at Save the Student than saving money on food.
We suggest keeping an eye out on Just Eat for discount codes – not just to save money on your regular takeaway, but also to ease the pain the next time you get Burger King delivered.
We've seen discounts offered between 10% and 20%, which can take a fair few quid off your afternoon snack – head over to our Student Deals to see if any codes have been released lately.
-
Unlimited Burger King drinks for £1.79
If you're in the market for a drink and no food, we've got a great little trick up our sleeves: order a regular drink for £1.79, and you'll get unlimited refills on it.
With that in mind, there's no point ordering any other size drink as you'll end up paying more for it. You'll still get the same amount of liquid this way, you may just have to refill it a few extra times.
However, you must make sure that the Burger King restaurant you're visiting has a self-service drinks machine. Otherwise, this trick won't work and you'll have to make do with your regular cup.

Burger King app vouchers
A true Burger King classic, The Whopper, is one of our favourite meals – and we've found a way to get it cheaper than £7.49. That's right: if you download the app, you'll have access to some top-notch Burger King vouchers...
On the app, you can get a free Whopper or Plant-Based Whopper on your first Click & Collect order if you spend more than £3. Just add a regular fries and drink (£3.68) and enjoy!
What's more, the app will occasionally include Whoppers for £1.99, Bacon & Cheese Crispy Chicken for £3, and 99p for regular fries. You'll need to keep an eye on the app for these vouchers as they do change though.
If Burger King isn't your bag, we've also managed to find great ways to get cheap and free food at Nando's!
