Chocolate truffles may be up there as some of the most expensive chocolates to buy in shops, but you can actually make them at home for very little cost.

Granted, they might not be exactly the same as the ones you get in-store. But, they're still delicious and seem really indulgent despite the small price tag.

The taste and simplicity of these digestive truffles will see you wanting to batch-make them in the hundreds, whether as thoughtful gifts for others or as post-study treats for yourself. You deserve it.

How to make truffles with digestive biscuits

Ingredients

Makes: 40–50 truffles | Cost: £1.93* excluding optional extra drinking choc | Time taken: 40 mins

  • 16 digestive biscuits (£0.41)
  • 6 heaped tablespoons of drinking chocolate powder (£0.52) – extra for dusting (optional)
  • 1 can (397g) of condensed milk (£1.00).

Method

  1. Place your digestive biscuits in a large bowl or a plastic bag, and crush them with a rolling pin (or something similar) until the digestives are small powdery crumbs.
  2. Add the chocolate drinking powder and mix.
  3. Add the entire can of condensed milk and stir until thoroughly combined. Chill in the fridge for around 20–30 minutes.
  4. Put a couple more tablespoons of drinking chocolate powder in a bowl for dusting (optional).
  5. Once the mixture has chilled, scoop a teaspoon of the mixture and roll it in your palms until it takes the shape of a small ball. Roll the truffle in the drinking chocolate powder (optional) and set it aside.
  6. Enjoy!

These truffles are best kept in the fridge in an airtight container until serving. If they're a gift, wait until the day you're giving them away to package them up nicely. Who can resist?
